The turbocharger that brought the Skyline back among the sharp cars

The R30 generation came at a time when the Japanese carmakers were still looking for a way out of the strangled era of emissions standards. The RS version was given the FJ20 inline four with twin camshafts and four valves per cylinder, and in 1983 a turbocharger was added to it, at that time the most powerful production unit the marque offered. The Early Version designation in the name points to the rendition before the later reworking of the nose, which enthusiasts remember with the classic grille and separately shaped headlights. It was precisely this car that made the RS range a respected rival on the Japanese circuits and among domestic tuners alike.

The contents of the box

The set in hard polystyrene holds the body, the lower section with the chassis elements, the interior parts, the wheels and separately packed clear moldings. They are rounded out by a decal sheet with the type markings and with elements of the instrument panel. The parts are neither painted nor cleaned of the sprue gates, so the model is first put together dry and only then glued.

Accessories outside the package

The package does not count on a finished surface: without a filler primer, an opaque shade and a clear coat the body stays the color of the raw plastic. Chrome on the window frames is usually dealt with by foil or thin adhesive tape, and neither is in the set. Tires and rims other than the type supplied have to be looked for among separate accessories. Anyone who wants to build the car in the form it wore on the Japanese circuits adds decals with race numbers of his own; the sheet supplied is aimed at the road rendition. The engine bay tends to be treated in a simplified way at this size, and detail is added into it by hand from wire.
