Nineteen-inch Rota IK-R wheels completed with tires for a deep tuck into the arch, 1:24 scale. Suitable for Japanese coupes and sharp hatchbacks built in the spirit of street modification.

The wheels of this make are among the things owners of Japanese coupes fitted first. The IK-R pattern is built on thin arms running out as far as the edge and on a deep dish, which is seen most in the view from the side. In 1:24 scale it suits builds where the car is meant to come across as one used daily, not as a show piece.
It is the depth that calls for the most work. For it to come out, the inside of the rim has to be painted differently from the face of the arms; a noticeably darker shade, which gives the shadow depth, works best. Lead the transition between the two surfaces exactly along the inner edge and watch that the paint does not get onto the outer ring.
The rubber supplied in the set has a narrower side, so the assumption is that the car will sit low and the wheels will be tilted inward. The axle is usually worked because of that: the pin is shortened and its seating is moved so that the body drops toward the ground. Proceed in minute steps and always stand the model on flat glass between individual adjustments.
A deep dish brings the outer edge of the rim so close to the body that at the rear axle the wheel begins to foul the inner lip. Two routes suggest themselves: either to thin the material in the lip from the inside, or to tuck the wheel inward a little by shortening the pin. The first solution looks better, the second is quicker. Whichever you choose, do it the same on both sides, otherwise the car will be optically crooked.
