An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:24 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The real subject is the racing Toyota Corolla Levin of the AE101 generation in the colors of the TOMS team. The distinguishing detail is precisely that combination of the AE101 generation and the team; AE101 Levins of other teams and in production form are issued as well.
The Corolla Levin of the AE101 generation arrived at the beginning of the 1990s as the successor to the AE92. It stayed with a coupe body, front-wheel drive and four-cylinder engines, but it received a more modern body shape and more sophisticated engineering. In the Japanese circuit series the Levins started in the lower displacement class, where they made up a numerous and closely followed starting field. TOMS is a Japanese firm long associated with the racing of Toyota cars, and its name on a car means factory backing.
Racing finishes tend to be two-color or multi-color, and part of the divisions are done with decals and part with paint. So plan the order before the first coat: the lighter shade first, then masking once it has cured and only then the darker one. Always run the paint of the lower coat over the edge of the mask first, so that it is that paint and not the top one that seeps under the tape. Keep the interior of a racing car matte and set the roll cage apart in a different shade from the body. Lay the decals on a gloss coat and use a softener.
