A kit of injection-molded plastic in 1:24 scale from the Japanese maker Aoshima. The subject is the Toyota JPN Taxi of the NTP10 type, that is a vehicle developed directly for the Japanese taxi service, in the standard of the Checker Cab operator. Aoshima is among the brands that have long devoted themselves to Japanese production automobiles, and models of utility and service versions form a group of their own in its range. The Toyota JPN Taxi is a single-volume vehicle presented in 2017 and designed from the start as a taxi for the Japanese market. It has a tall body with sliding rear doors, a low entry sill and a roomy rear compartment, which is meant to make getting in easier for older and less mobile passengers. The drive is provided by a hybrid system burning liquefied gas. The characteristic dark blue color of the body has become the new visual mark of the taxi service in Japan, and the individual operators then complete the vehicle with their own markings and beacons on the roof.
First rid the body of mold parting lines and flash; on a tall smooth surface every unevenness shows under the paint. Apply a primer, then the paint in thin coats and let it cure properly. A gloss clear coat before the decals will make seating them easier and prevent silvering under the film. Glue the glazing with glue for clear parts, which does not fog the surface. With the interior of a taxi it pays to tell the shades of the upholstery apart and to suggest wear, because with a tall body there is a good view through the windows. Bring the chrome elements and trim strips out with a metallic paint or with a foil at the end of the build.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
