Raised rivets as a decal

Riveting decides the impression a finished surface makes and is at the same time one of the most time-consuming jobs of the whole build. Running a riveting wheel over the surface by hand moreover leaves a mark pressed inward, that is the exact opposite of how most real structures look. This set brings finished rows of raised rivets, which are transferred onto the model like a decal and, once dry, are sprayed over together with the area around them.

What the numbers in the name give

The strips are triple row, that is with three parallel rows of rivets side by side. The rivet size is 0.25 mm, the gap is 1.0 mm and the total length is 3.2 meters, which matches the figure of 10.5 feet given in the name. The 1:24 scale is one of the largest, where an individual rivet really is visible on the model and every irregularity in a row catches the eye. The black carrier is easy to align on a light base; once the paint is sprayed on, its shade no longer matters.

How the strip is applied

• smooth the area and coat it with a gloss varnish, as on a matte surface the decal goes white
• release the cut piece in lukewarm water and guide it along a guide made of masking tape
• blot the excess water away; while the carrier is damp, the position can still be corrected
• a decal softener helps the strip adhere to rounded surfaces and to engraved lines
• once it is completely dry, fix the surface with a varnish and only then paint it
