The set holds two castings of the British Vickers aircraft machine gun in the variant designated Hyland Type E, in 1:24 scale. It is neither an aircraft kit nor a stand-alone model, but an accessory meant to be fitted to a model under construction or already finished, to a figure or into a diorama. In the large 1:24 scale every detail of the gun shows, so a resin casting is worth using even where the kit includes a part of its own.
The Vickers was a British 7.7 mm belt-fed aircraft machine gun, derived from the ground belt-fed weapon and stripped of water cooling in its aircraft form. It was deployed in fixed installations as well as on flexible mounts, and over its service life several production and installation variants arose that differ in the details of the barrel jacket, the grip and the attachment. We recommend comparing the exact design differences of the version named here against the documentation for the particular airplane before you build.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to get rid of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a disc, level the area wet and protect your airways while doing so. It is bonded with super glue, that is cyanoacrylate. For painting, a dark steel base coat works well, with a dark wash in the recesses and fine dry brushing of the edges; the perforation of the barrel jacket stands out if a darker shade is allowed to run into it.
This is an accessory, not a complete kit. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
