This item from Artwox Model is a finishing accessory for the plastic model of the British destroyer HMS Campbeltown in 1:240. You are not buying the model, you are buying the surface of its decks. Wood works excellently at a reduction this small, because the texture stays readable even where a thin layer of paint would merge into one area. The target kit is Revell 3016.
The Campbeltown was originally an American destroyer of the First World War, which Britain obtained in 1940 in exchange for bases. She became famous in March 1942, when her bow packed with explosive rammed the gates of the huge dry dock at Saint-Nazaire. The charge went off with a delay the following day and put out of action the only berth on the Atlantic coast that would have taken the battleship Tirpitz. Before the operation the silhouette of the ship was altered so that at a distance she resembled a German vessel.
A destroyer has a narrow deck interrupted by a great many superstructures, so it pays to work from the stern toward the bow and to leave the smaller cutouts until last. Surplus glue runs out onto the face and light wood will not let it go, so meter it out sparingly. Light toning and a matte varnish will unify the final look.
