1:48 corrected engines for the A-10A and A-10C Thunderbolt II are resin replacement parts that put right the shape of the powerplants set high above the rear fuselage.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a detail accessory for an aircraft model, not the model itself. The wording correct engines in the original name says what the set is for: it gives the model powerplants in a shape that matches reality better than the parts supplied in the base kit. On the Thunderbolt II the engines sit in nacelles high on the sides of the rear fuselage and are therefore visible from every angle, including from above. The resin casting holds even the fine transitions on the nacelle surface that injection-molded plastic simplifies.
The Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II is an attack aircraft built literally around its gun and meant for close support of ground forces. The A-10A version is the original form, while the A-10C is a later update with reworked avionics and cockpit. Mounting the engines high above the wing and between the vertical tails grew out of requirements for operation from unpaved strips, for protecting the intakes against debris and for reducing the heat signature from behind. That same arrangement means the nacelles are one of the first places a viewer notices on the model.
Wash the castings in warm water with a little detergent so that no mold release agent is left on them. Separate the casting blocks with a fine saw and level the surface with wet sandpaper, protecting your breathing. Test the fit dry and check that both nacelles meet the fuselage at the same angle; asymmetry shows immediately on this aircraft. Fix the joint with cyanoacrylate glue. Darken the front and rear mouths of the nacelle before you seat the set, and fill the interior with graded metallic tones.
