1:48 Macchi M 39 Rigging Wire Set is an accessory set of rigging wires from the manufacturer SBS Model, meant for a model of the Italian racing seaplane in 1:48.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory set of rigging wires from the manufacturer SBS Model in 1:48, not a kit of the aircraft. The set is cut for the kit from the same manufacturer and replaces the improvised solutions modelers otherwise resort to: fishing line, stretched sprue or wire. Rigging wires are a conspicuous part of the silhouette of interwar racing seaplanes, so the way they are done has a great effect on the overall impression of a finished model.
The Macchi M.39 was an Italian racing seaplane built for the Schneider Trophy, the seaplane race that set the pace of fast aircraft development in the 1920s. It was a low-wing monoplane on a pair of floats, with a fuselage braced by a system of wires and with a powerful inline engine. In 1926 Italy won the race with it and the machine became one of the stepping stones to the brand's later record designs. It is exactly the fine bracing and the clean aerodynamic shapes that make this type a rewarding subject for modelers.
The bracing is fitted only once the airframe has been painted and varnished, or the wires will easily be damaged during the rest of the work. Work one wire at a time: first measure the length, and only then cut. A drop of cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) applied with a pin or a piece of wire will hold it. It pays to mark the attachment points in advance and to have the model securely seated so that it does not move during the work. Patience matters more here than speed.
