AIM-9X 1:32 is a resin set of underwing armament from Eduard — a modern short-range guided missile. It is not an aircraft kit or a photo-etched set, it is an accessory for under the wing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set offers a cast version of the modern American short-range guided missile. Armament is one of those parts where the difference between injection-molded plastic and resin shows at once: on a casting the control surfaces and the fins can be markedly thinner, the edges sharper and the surface free of the parting seam which on plastic halves runs exactly along the most visible line of the body of the missile. The set is intended for a modeler who wants to replace the armament supplied in a kit, or to add armament to a model. The manufacturer is the Czech firm Eduard.
The AIM-9X is the latest development branch of the Sidewinder family, the American infrared-guided air-to-air missile for close-range combat. It can be told from the older members of the line mainly by its completely reworked control surfaces and the different shape of the forward section. A wide range of present-day tactical aircraft carries it, which makes it a universal accessory for models of contemporary machines.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water because of the remains of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc — the thin surfaces of the control fins break off easily, so support them while cutting. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Spray it with primer before painting. On modern armament it is rewarding not to overdo the weathering: missiles tend to be relatively clean, and the greatest effect comes from precise shading of the color bands and fine emphasis of the panel joints with a dark wash. Watch the alignment when gluing it to the pylon — a missile fitted crookedly shows more than any detail.
It is an accessory for a model, not a kit in its own right. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
