The accessory set from the manufacturer Brengun contains two AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles in 1:32 scale. This is not a model of an aircraft but armament with which an already built or partly built kit is supplemented. In the large 1:32 scale the shapes and fine details of stores are visible that smaller scales do not capture, so separately made parts will do a markedly better job than simple stores from the box.
The AIM-9X is the newest development branch of the Sidewinder family, that is, short-range air-to-air guided missiles with infrared guidance. Compared with the older members of the family it has an imaging infrared seeker, markedly smaller control surfaces and thrust vector control, thanks to which it manages fast maneuvers immediately after launch. In combination with a helmet-mounted sight it makes aiming off the carrier's line of flight possible. The missile is in service with a number of modern combat aircraft and appears in service both in a training and in a live form, which differ from each other in their color markings.
First look the parts over and separate them carefully from the sprue gates. Level the cut surfaces with a file and fine abrasive paper, so that the body of the missile stays perfectly straight. Before you start gluing, carry out a dry run and check that the fins and the stabilizers sit on the same axis. Small surfaces are well fixed with a wire pin pushed into the body. For gluing use thin cyanoacrylate in a small drop. Before painting, wash and degrease the whole part and apply primer, which the paint holds to better. The markings differ according to whether you are building the training or the live form, so choose one variant beforehand and keep to it with the color bands as well.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and is not a standalone model. It serves to supplement an aircraft kit in 1:32 scale.
