Five sheets of pre-cut masks make it possible to spray the whole striking pattern of the machine nicknamed Spotted Ass Ape: red and blue circles on the forward fuselage and the upper surfaces of the wings, the national insignia and the numbers. The sheets offer two forms of the aircraft, with the spots on the rear fuselage and without them.
The Eighth Air Force needed to gather hundreds of bombers into combat formation over England, often above the cloud. It therefore sent up a retired aircraft painted in a garish pattern, around which the crews formed up. The machine carried no bombs and returned to base once the formation was assembled. The color scheme was deliberately as garish as possible, so that the machine would stand out even in the hazy English air. This Liberator of the 458th Bombardment Group performed just such a task.
The circles belong on an already dried base coat. Proceed color by color: first lay out the masks of one color, spray, let it flash off and only then deal with the second. Apply the paint at right angles, so that it does not run under the edge. Removed stencils can be used again after careful peeling, which comes in handy when you want to try both forms of the pattern. With the spots the rule is that the thinner the layer, the cleaner the edge of the circle; one heavy pass floods the edge and the circle then comes across as blurred.
