A masking set for the late Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 and its variant with underwing cannon, in 1:32 scale. It deals with the canopy frames from both sides and adds two insignia stencils and a sheet of decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
The G-6 version of 1943 replaced the 7.92 millimeter machine guns with more powerful thirteen millimeter MG 131s. Their breeches would not fit under the cowling, so the designers had to form the characteristic bulges on both sides of the nose, which units called the Beule. The R-6 addition then meant a pair of gondolas with cannon under the wing, the usual equipment of machines intended against formations of American bombers.
The framing of the canopy is covered from the outside and the inside, a pair of stencils serves for the national insignia and a sheet of decals supplements them. For this version that is an advantage, because the crosses on the fuselage and the wing have a multi-layer shape.
A cross with a white border cannot be sprayed in one go. First the light lower layer is applied through the outer stencil, and once it has dried the second piece is seated into it to delimit the dark center. The key to success is to make two fine register marks on the surface with a pencil before the first spraying, so that the second layer sits exactly. Without them the border goes out of true and the asymmetry is immediately apparent in a large scale. A test spray on a scrap of sprue will tell you how much paint the edge will take.
