Painting masks for the national insignia of a model of the Curtiss P-40E Warhawk in 1:32 scale, listed for the Trumpeter kit. The insignia are sprayed instead of applied as decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set is listed for the Curtiss P-40E Warhawk model from Trumpeter in 1:32 scale and is used to spray the national insignia. Instead of a decal, which lies on the surface as a thin layer of varnish, the insignia is created directly in the paint of the model.
You can spot a decal on a matte finish by the glossy edge of its carrier film, especially where there is riveting or a panel line underneath. A sprayed insignia has no such edge, it keeps to the shape of the surface and it takes later weathering without the danger of the film lifting. In a larger scale this difference is most apparent, because the insignia are big and the viewer sees them close up.
The P-40E is an American fighter of the Second World War, recognizable by the pronounced radiator chin below the engine. It was powered by an Allison V-1710 V12 and its armament consisted of six 12.7 mm machine guns in the wings. In British service the same type flew under the name Kittyhawk.
The order of the individual layers and the layout of the masks are given in the manufacturer's instructions. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
