This Armycast resin set in 1:48 scale contains RP 62 underwing drop tanks of 1300 liters for the Mirage III E, the Mirage IIIO, the Mirage 5 and the Israeli Nesher. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory meant to be fitted to a model that has already been built. Cast resin stores have a smoother surface and a more accurate shape at the nose and tail than parts from an ordinary injection mold, so they replace the simplified tanks from the base kit.
The Mirage III and the versions derived from it were marked out by their large drop tanks under the wing, which gave them a usable range on ferry flights and patrol duties. The configuration with a pair of underwing tanks was among the most common on French, Australian and Israeli machines alike and is well documented in period photographs. A model without these stores therefore usually does not match the way the aircraft normally flew.
First wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent so that no mold release agent is left on them. Separate the casting blocks with a saw or a cutting disc, trim them with a scalpel and level the mating face with sandpaper, ideally wet and with respiratory protection. Resin is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); on larger stores a short steel pin drilled into the wing helps by taking the mechanical load off the joint. Apply a filler primer before painting. Spray the tanks at the same time as the wing so that the shade matches, and do not overdo picking out the panel lines while weathering.
