Pre-cut self-adhesive painting masks in 1:32 scale from Art Scale. These are not a kit or spare parts but an aid for painting: the masks are stuck onto the clear parts, cover the glazed areas and leave only the cockpit framing exposed, which you then spray with a sharp, straight edge. The double-sided version allows for masking the clear parts from the outside and from the inside, so you can paint the framing from inside the cockpit as well and the view into the interior is clean once the canopy is closed. The masks are cut to the shape of the parts of the HK Models kit, so with a kit of other origin the fit has to be tested first.
The Dornier Do 335 was a German fighter from the end of the Second World War with an unusual power arrangement: one engine with a propeller in the nose and a second at the rear of the fuselage with a pusher propeller behind the cruciform tail. The tandem solution gave the aircraft the performance of a twin-engine machine without asymmetric thrust if one engine failed. The A-10 configuration is a two-seater, with a second, higher-set station behind the pilots cockpit. The longer and more broken-up glazing of the two-seat version means more frames that have to be set apart from the transparent areas.
Wash the clear parts first in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry thoroughly; the mask does not hold on a greasy surface. Pop the individual masks out of the sheet with the tip of a scalpel and carry them with tweezers so that no fingerprints are left on the adhesive layer. Lay the mask on the part, press it from the center toward the edges and smooth the edge down with a toothpick. If a piece does not sit quite precisely, trim the outline with a fresh blade right in place. Cover the areas outside the glazing with masking tape. Spray thin coats at right angles to the surface; a heavy coat will build a step at the edge and run underneath the mask. Lift the mask as soon as the paint has flashed off, pulling it back at an angle over itself.
The masks are an aid for painting, not a kit or spare parts. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
