Sets of this type replace selected plastic parts of a kit with castings carrying finer and crisper detail that cannot be produced by an injection mold. In a large scale the difference is exceptionally visible, because the model is big and the viewer examines the individual assemblies close up. The Republic F-105 Thunderchief was an American single-seat supersonic fighter-bomber from the so-called Century series. It was powered by a single Pratt & Whitney J75 jet engine and was one of the largest and heaviest single-engine combat aircraft of its day. Its characteristic features were the swept wings, the wing root leading edges with their intake ducts, and the internal bomb bay in the fuselage, which the machine originally received for carrying its load internally. The F-105 was built in single-seat and two-seat versions, the two-seat variant being used for suppressing ground radar systems.
Before building, wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, and never break them off. Level the mating surfaces with abrasive paper and sand wet, with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, because ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Apply a primer before painting, otherwise the paint would hold poorly on the smooth casting. In a large scale even a slight unevenness stands out, so it is better to fill and sand the transition between the resin and the plastic. Check the fit dry before filling.
The add-on set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
