A Red Fox Studio accessory for a model of the single-seat fighter in 1:32 scale. The instrument areas are printed in color and textured in relief; the carrier is decal paper, so the panel is soaked off in water and slid onto the base just like a classic decal. The set is intended for Tamiya kits.
The F-16 has a cockpit that differs from other fighters in the very layout of the station. The control stick is not in the middle but on the right side console, the seat is markedly reclined and the main panel is therefore fairly low and narrow — a large part of the controls is carried by the side consoles and panels. Add the one-piece frameless canopy, through which the cockpit is visible from practically every side, and it is clear why on this type it does not pay to skimp on the consoles in particular. The panel itself combines displays in the middle with smaller round gauges at the sides.
A frameless canopy forgives no shortcuts, so plan the order in advance. Polish and prepare the canopy before you start on the cockpit — once the print is in you do not want to be working with polishing paste nearby. Paint the tub, the consoles and the seat, let them cure and degrease the surface. Lay the panel onto a smooth base and sand away any molded relief beforehand. Finally check that the print does not clash with the frame of the head-up display and that the canopy closes without pressure.
