It is not a kit of an aircraft; these are accessory parts with which a model is fitted out when building the machine in its ground configuration. On a real aircraft the air intake covers are fitted whenever the machine is standing and not preparing to take off; they prevent a foreign object from flying or falling into the engine. On a model they serve two purposes at once. First, they are prominent, usually colored elements that break up the uniform surface of the airframe and give the model the story of a machine on the apron. Second, they solve the most awkward place in any build of a modern aircraft, the view into the intake duct, where a kit often leaves a visible parting seam.
The F-35A Lightning II is a single-seat single-engine combat aircraft built with reduced radar signature in mind. The A version is the land-based variant with conventional takeoff and landing. The shape of the air intakes is among its characteristic features, and that is why the protective covers are specific in shape too; they are not interchangeable with the covers of other types.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting block off with a razor saw and level the surface on wet sandpaper; protect your airways while sanding resin. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, or they can simply be seated without glue if you want to keep the model variable. The covers are usually painted in bright high-visibility shades so that they are clearly visible on the apron. Paint them separately from the airframe and fit them at the very end of the build.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package. We recommend checking that it matches your kit before buying.
