A masking set from the maker Special Mask for a model of the AH-1G Cobra attack helicopter in 1:32 scale. It is not a model and not decals, but an aid to painting: the masks cover the glazing, so the cabin frames can be sprayed without going over them by hand with a brush. The Inside/Outside designation refers to the set being laid out for both sides of the glazing.
The cabin of the AH-1G is slender, narrow and exceptionally glazed, so you can see into the interior from every angle. The glazing frames are meanwhile not the same on both sides: from inside they follow on from the color of the cabin, from outside from the external camouflage. When only the outside is masked, the inner side of the frames stays in the color of the clear plastic and the whole model gives itself away. Masking from both sides is extra work, but on a subject this glazed it is exactly the difference a viewer notices.
Wash the glazing before masking and let it dry thoroughly; grease from fingers makes masks hold unreliably. Lift the masks off with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and press them down with a toothpick, so that the edge adheres; it is precisely under an unpressed edge that the paint runs under. Spray in thin coats, as a heavy coat creates a step and may lift off when the mask is removed. Take the masks off while the paint is freshly dry, not after several days. Paint the inner sides of the frames before you close the cabin onto the model.
The set serves for masking during painting. The model, paints and thinners are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
