F-4 Phantom II remove before flight covers 1:32 (Quickboost)

A set of resin protective covers for a plastic kit of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II in 1:32 scale. Quickboost is an accessory line from Aires aimed at simple parts that are fitted to a model without major reworking. Covers with Remove Before Flight tags are fitted on a real aircraft over places that could get dirty or be damaged while it stands on the ground, and on a model they say clearly that the aircraft is secured and not ready to start. The set is not a model of an aircraft.

The real subject

The F-4 Phantom II is a two-seat twin-engine aircraft that served with a number of operators in many versions. On the ground, sensitive openings and sensors on this type used to be covered, and the striking red tags are there so that the ground crew does not forget a cover. In 1:32 scale such small items are clearly legible and give both the model and the whole scene credibility.

Building and painting tips

Wash the castings in warm water with detergent, cut the casting blocks off with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw and sand the cut down. Work over a tray with a raised edge, as small parts are easily lost. They are glued with cyanoacrylate, applied in a minimal amount with a pin. The covers are painted red or in a shade matching a particular unit, and the lettering is done either with a decal or with a very fine brush. So that the tags do not look stiff and molded, a light wash into the folds and matte varnish at the end both help. Glue the covers on only once the model is finished and varnished, otherwise they will break off during further work.
