A set of resin exhaust nozzles for the Phantom II aircraft in the F-4E, F-4F, F-4G and RF-4E versions, in 1:32 scale from the Aires brand. It is not a model of an aircraft or a kit — it is a replacement part for a plastic kit you already own. It replaces nozzles cast in a mold, which tend to be thick-walled, simplified and with no inner structure, with a part with a thin wall and with detail inside as well.
On the twin-engine Phantom the nozzles are one of the most conspicuous places on a model: everybody who walks around the model from behind looks into them, and it is exactly there that a plastic part most often gives its origin away. The set solves two things at once — the thickness of the rim wall, which in scale should look like sheet metal, and the inner detail behind it. In the large 1:32 scale this difference is visible at first glance, so exhaust nozzles belong among the most frequently replaced parts at this size.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that the mold release agent is removed — otherwise the paint will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers; resin is brittle and cracks when squeezed. Cut and sand wet or with extraction and with respiratory protection. Try them dry and keep doing so: seating them into the rear of the fuselage usually calls for a slight widening of the opening. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). When painting, work with metallic shades in layers and darken the inside of the nozzle before you build it in — after that you can no longer get into it. The burnt look is built well with thin sprays over a base metallic coat, not with one heavy pass.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, please check that the set matches your kit.
