A masking set for a model of the carrier-borne Vought F4U-1 Corsair fighter in 1:32 scale. The masks are cut in advance to the shape of the individual areas of the glazing. With the Corsair they come in especially handy, because the early version has a densely framed cockpit canopy whose masking by hand with tape takes hours and whose edges still do not come out symmetrical. In the large 1:32 scale, moreover, every inaccuracy on a frame shows at once.
The Vought F4U-1 Corsair was a single-engine carrier-borne fighter recognizable by its inverted gull wing, which made it possible to use a large propeller with landing gear legs of a reasonable length. It was powered by the Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine. The F4U-1 version was the first production variant and it was used by the US Navy as well as the Marine Corps. The long nose and the position of the cockpit behind the wing made deck landings difficult, which led to later changes to the cockpit and the landing gear.
Degrease the glazing, lay the masks on and press the edges with a toothpick so that no paint creeps under them. On a densely framed canopy work one pane at a time and keep checking that the mask sits exactly on the frame. Spray thin coats, the interior shade first and then the top color. Take the masks off soon after the paint has dried, pulling them sideways. In a large scale it pays off to check the edges with a magnifier once the masks are off and to put right any overrun with a pointed brush.
This is an accessory to a model. The package holds no kit, no paints and no glue.
