1:32 F/A-18C Hornet from Red Fox Studio is a sheet of 3D decals for the cockpit of the single-seat C version. It serves to bring the cockpit detail of a part-built model up to standard.
Responsibility details are not available.
The C version is the single-seat variant of the Hornet from the later batches and has one station in the cockpit. The sheet from Red Fox Studio is made for it and replaces laborious hand painting of the instrument panel and the side consoles with a layered decal that has a thickness of its own.
A hand-painted instrument panel stands or falls on how precisely the brush lands in the molded dials and how legibly the faces end up on them. In 1:32 scale every compromise shows. A layered decal solves both at once: the drawing of the instruments is printed sharply and the edges of the panels have a real height, so that shadow falls on them and the surface does not look like paper stuck down. The difference is noticed even by a viewer who knows nothing about modeling, because the eye reacts to depth, not to individual dials.
What to watch out for
A relief decal is more sensitive to unevenness in the surface underneath than to anything else, so level the panel first and paint it flat. Work in good light and with a damp rather than a wet surface: surplus water lifts the part and it then travels somewhere other than where you need it. Once it is set, leave everything to dry quietly for at least a few hours and only then consider a coat of varnish. If you do decide on varnish, test it first on an offcut of the sheet, because the printed layer reacts to thinner differently from bare plastic.
This is a cockpit accessory, not a model of the aircraft. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
