1:32 Germam sailors with pigeons

The real subject

For long decades the homing pigeon was a reliable means of communication where a radio set failed or was not allowed to be used. Ships, aircraft and crews at coastal stations carried them, and a message attached to a leg reached home faster than a courier could have delivered it. The motif of sailors with pigeons is therefore rewarding: it joins equipment with a scene that catches the attention at once and tells a story without a single word.

What the set contains

Figures of German sailors with pigeons in 1:32. The exact number of figures, their poses and the extent of the parts are given by the instructions and by the maker's data on the packaging. In 1:32 a standing figure measures around five and a half centimeters, so even small things such as buttons, a belt and the features of the face stand out on it.

Building and painting tips

Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder gently, so as not to wipe away the raised relief of the folds. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts; super glue will serve universally. Before painting, wash and degrease the figures and apply a thin base. Paint in stages: first the face and hands, then the clothing, finally the small details. Apply the paint in thin layers and deepen the shadows with a glaze, and go over the edges of the folds with a lighter shade.

Who it is for

The set is for modelers who build dioramas and want to get a human scene into the setting. In 1:32 the figures are large enough for it to be worth spending time on the faces. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
