About product

The first Western jet fighter in service

The Gloster Meteor was the only Allied jet aircraft to reach combat service in the Second World War, and the F.4 version made it a fully fledged postwar fighter. It received more powerful Derwent 5 engines, a strengthened fuselage and shortened wings, so it was precisely with this version that the Royal Air Force moved into the jet era. A number of foreign operators acquired the Meteor in the same form.

The three subjects on the sheet

The first choice is an all-silver machine with the serial VT328 of No. 263 Squadron, which in 1950 you will find at the Church Fenton base in North Yorkshire. The second option is VW256 with the letter P of No. 207 Advanced Flying School, based in 1952 at Yeadon in the western part of the same county, likewise in a silver finish, to which yellow training bands belonged. The third subject leads abroad: the aircraft with the number 464 served in 1950 with the 3rd Naval Air Flotilla of the Royal Danish Navy at the Karup base in Jutland and carried dark green and dark gray on the upper surfaces with a light blue-gray underside.

What to watch out for

The yellow training bands for the school machine are not included in the printing; count on spraying them through masks. With the silver finishes gloss clear pays off, because a polished metal surface otherwise gives away the tiny edges of the carrier film without fail. The Danish subject, by contrast, is matte and forgives more, but with it watch the exact boundary between the upper and lower colors, because the markings lie close to it. Keep the rest of the sheet once you are finished; the numerals and small lettering come in useful on other builds as well. What is for sale is the printing alone; plastic parts and paints do not belong with it.

FAQ

Three, of which the two British machines have an all-metal sheen and the last, the Danish one, carries a camouflage finish.

They are not. On the school machine from 1952 they have to be sprayed; the supplier points that out expressly.

The upper side combines dark green with gray; underneath the aircraft is light blue-gray.

For the F.4 version, that is, the postwar fighter with more powerful engines and a strengthened fuselage.
