Masks for the canopy frames and for the wheels for a large model of the Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIb. The cut matches kits from Revell.
Responsibility details are not available.
The second production series of the Hurricane received a Merlin XX with a two-speed supercharger, and with it the performance that extended the front-line career of the type by several years. The Mk.IIb subversion carried twelve 7.7 mm machine guns in the wing, that is four more than the original eight-gun armament. The wing at the same time allowed two bombs to be hung and a defensive fighter became an attack machine.
These aircraft flew over the English Channel, defended Malta, fought in North Africa and hundreds of examples went by convoy to the Soviet Union. A structure with a tube frame covered in fabric was easier to repair under field conditions than an all-metal airframe shell, which kept the type in use even where there were no workshops.
Masking the canopy is best managed before the glass is seated into the fuselage and can no longer be turned freely. The outlines in the sheet are already brought to their final form, so all you have to do is peel them off with tweezers and seat them in place. Once the varnish has dried they are pulled off slowly and at a sharp angle, so that the edge of the paint does not fray.
The cut allows for the form of the model as this brand molds it in this scale. With moldings of another origin the spacing of the frames differs and the masks could overhang. Besides the cockpit there are also discs for the wheel hubs in the set.
Cover the rest of the large areas in the middle of the glass additionally with ordinary tape or shapeable putty. Once the paint has dried, take the mask off and carefully scrape any overrun away with a toothpick, which will not scratch the soft clear material. Patience pays off, because repairing a frame tends to be more laborious than masking it carefully.
