A decal sheet, not a kit. In the numbered series this is part number 11 and the subject is machines of the South African Air Force. It is an option for modelers who want to branch off from the usual British schemes while staying with a well available and popular subject.
The Hurricane Mk.IIb belonged to the second generation of this British fighter: it received a more powerful Rolls-Royce engine and numerous machine gun armament in the wings. By then it was no longer a match for the most modern opponents in air combat, but it proved itself a tough and easily maintained machine on secondary fronts. The South African Air Force used Hurricanes in the African theater, where what counted was mainly reliability, the ability to operate from field strips and the capacity to act against ground targets. The African setting moreover offers a model a rewarding sand camouflage and pronounced wear.
Prepare a gloss base, because on a matte finish air will be trapped under the carrier film and the edges will start to silver. Release the decal in lukewarm water, move it into place and blot the surplus water away. Then apply a decal softener so that the film conforms to the engraved lines, and let it dry undisturbed. Finally wash the surface and unify the whole model with a matte clear coat, which then holds dust pigments and a wash well.
