About product

1:32 Heinkel He 219A-0/A2 — 3D instrument panels on decal paper

This Red Fox Studio accessory in 1:32 scale brings instrument panels printed in color and textured in relief for the cockpit of a two-seat night fighter. The print is carried on decal paper, so it is handled like a decal — soaked off, slid into place and left to dry. It is not a resin casting and not a photo-etched part. The accessory is designed for the Revell kit.

What is special about this cockpit

The He 219 had its crew arranged one behind the other and the two stations served completely different purposes. The pilot in front had a panel laid out in the standard way with flight and engine instruments, while the station of the second crew member was equipped mainly with control and readout boxes for the night-fighting equipment, not with a second flight panel. On top of that comes the extensive glazing of the cabin: the interior is visible from above and from the sides, so here you cannot count on a finished model hiding the detail. The instruments are purely analog, with round dials and small lettering that are very hard to do with a brush in 1:32.

Before the panel's turn comes

A glazed cabin means one thing only: the interior has to be completely finished before the fuselage halves are joined. Get the sanding and filling of the seams out of the way first; sanding dust will bite into a freshly laid print. The seats, the floor and the sidewalls come before the panel, so that you do not have to reach into the space again. Lay the panel onto cured, degreased paint, dose the decal softener by drops only where the print has to settle into a recess, and leave it alone for at least a day before you start closing the cabin.

Who the set is for

  • builds with an open or glazed cabin, where the interior stays on show
  • modelers who do not want to paint small dials with a brush
  • those looking for a quick lift in the level of the interior without working with resin
  • the large 1:32 scale, where coarse plastic relief shows most

This is an accessory for a kit, not a model of the aircraft. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Please check in advance that it matches your kit.

FAQ

Cut it out, dip it in water for a few seconds, let it rest on the paper and then slide it onto a dry, degreased base. Position it with a damp brush and draw the water off with a tissue.

We do not recommend doing it over the whole area. A matte varnish takes away the gloss of the instrument glasses, which is the main reason the print looks three-dimensional.
