A photo-etched set for a model of the F-35C carrier combat aircraft in 1:32 scale. Thin metal parts replace those parts that injection-molded plastic cannot make thin enough.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-35C is the carrier configuration of the single-seat F-35 combat aircraft, intended for the US Navy. It differs from the other versions in a larger wing with folding tips, strengthened landing gear and an arrestor hook, because it is launched from a ship by catapult and lands into arrestor wires. The larger wing area also lowers its landing speed, which is decisive on a deck.
Photo-etched parts are cut from thin metal sheet, so they reach a thickness that injection-molded plastic cannot manage. In 1:32 scale that difference is especially easy to see: the model is large, the viewer looks at it from close up and a thicker plastic edge catches the eye at once. The set is worked out for the F-35C model in this scale. On a modern aircraft with a smooth surface, most of the visual interest is carried by just a few places with fine structure, and that is where a metal part pays off most.
The parts are held on the fret by thin tabs. Cut them with a sharp blade resting on a hard surface; twisting them off buckles the part and it is then hard to straighten. Make the bends in the marked groove over a straight edge or in a bending tool. They are bonded with a tiny amount of super glue; an excess spreads and fogs the surroundings. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and give it a coat of primer for metal surfaces, otherwise the finish chips off while it is handled. Small parts are easier to paint while still on the fret, where they cannot fly away.
The aircraft model, paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
