1:32 Macchi MC.202 Folgore is a double-sided painting mask from Art Scale for a model of the Italian Macchi MC.202 Folgore fighter in 1:32 scale. It is not a kit, but an aid for painting.

The mask is self-adhesive and cut to shape in advance, so it is stuck straight onto the clear part and the tedious cutting of strips from tape falls away. The designation double-sided means that the masks are prepared both for the outer and for the inner side of the glazing. That has a practical reason: a masked inside prevents the interior shade from printing through into the transparency, and the frames then look sharp from both sides. A one-sided variant also exists for anyone who only needs to mask from the outside.
The Macchi MC.202 Folgore was the most successful Italian fighter of the Second World War. It came about when the designer Mario Castoldi combined the proven airframe of the previous type with the Daimler-Benz DB 601 inverted V12 engine, which was built in Italy under license. The machine thereby gained an aerodynamically clean nose and performance comparable with contemporary opponents, while its relatively light armament remained a weakness. It was deployed over North Africa, over Malta and over Italy.
Wash the clear part in lukewarm soapy water before masking and let it dry properly, as a mask will not hold on a greasy surface and paint will run under. Take the individual pieces off the sheet with the tip of a scalpel, not with your fingers. After sticking them on, run a toothpick over the edges so that they bed down. Spray the paint in several thin coats and take the mask off while the varnish is freshly dried, not after several days, when the bond tends to be hard and there is a risk of tearing the paint off. Spray the frames with the interior shade first and only then with the outer camouflage finish.
