The metal replacement flaps Eduard 1:32 Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero landing flaps take over from the thick plastic parts in the trailing edge of the wing.
Responsibility details are not available.
Photo-etched brass sheet makes it possible to build the flaps in a thickness injected plastic can never reach, and above all to set them in the lowered position. The inner ribbing and the space in the trailing edge of the wing are revealed, and on a parked machine they have a decisive share in the final impression. The package contains metal parts, while the wing and the whole aircraft are sold separately.
The A6M2 Model 21 had split flaps under the trailing edge, which swung down for a takeoff from a deck and for landing. After the engine was shut down they usually stayed hanging, so period photographs of Japanese carrier fighters show the wing precisely with the flaps open. The closed shape that kits are usually supplied with therefore matches flight rather than standing on a deck.
The plastic flaps are first cut away and the seating is leveled. The metal parts are bent in a bending tool or between two razor blades along the etched grooves, and the joints are held by cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal dose. Before painting, degrease the metal and use a primer intended for smooth surfaces, otherwise the paint will not hold on the etch. It pays to work on a light surface and to cut the parts from the fret with a sharp knife against a hard board, because tiny hinges are hunted in a carpet in vain.
