The decals 1:32 Monotone Supermarine Spitfires from AIMS cover reconnaissance and fighter Spitfires whose airframe carried a single overall shade.
Responsibility details are not available.
The sheet brings the reconnaissance renditions of the Spitfire together with selected machines of the Mk.V series. What joins them is a finish without the classic two-color camouflage on the upper surfaces, which helped the reconnaissance machines blend with the sky over occupied Europe.
Unarmed reconnaissance Spitfires were filled with cameras and additional fuel in place of machine guns. They flew high, alone and without protection, so their only defense was speed, ceiling and inconspicuousness. From that come the overall shades of blue and the light pink color for flying at dusk. The Mk.Vb and Mk.Vc fighters on the sheet show that a uniform finish appeared with combat units as well, for example on machines assigned to high-altitude tasks. The photographs these machines brought back were assembled in laboratories into maps and served to plan both raids and landings.
An overall color gives away every imperfection of the filler and every fingerprint, so sand and degrease the surface carefully before spraying. Build the coat up slowly, as an uneven application shows more on a uniform surface than on camouflage. Then lay the decals over a gloss intermediate coat. Once applied, let the model rest so that the film settles properly, and only then matte it down.
The article offered is a decal sheet intended for a Spitfire kit.
