Masking of the canopy framing for the Nakajima B5N2 Kate in 1:32 scale, in the variant for a closed canopy.
Responsibility details are not available.
The carrier-borne torpedo bomber has a long greenhouse canopy above the cockpit made up of many panes, and it is precisely its frames that are among the most laborious places of the whole build. According to the name, this set is meant for the canopy in the closed position, that is, for a model with the cockpit closed up as one whole. That does away with cutting strips from tape and above all with guessing exactly where the frame should pass into the glazing.
The Nakajima B5N was a three-seat carrier attack aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy, designated Kate by the Allies. It carried a torpedo as well as bombs and in 1941 it took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor, and later in the sinking of several American aircraft carriers. The crew consisted of a pilot, a navigator and a radio operator with a rear machine gun, which matches the length of the glazing: from the modeling point of view it is the greatest challenge of the whole kit.
The frames are sprayed in two stages: first the color visible from inside, then the outer camouflage. Polish and degrease the glazing first, seat the masking exactly to the molded frames and work it through slowly from the center to the edges, so that no bubble is left anywhere. Spray a very thin coat; heavy paint on a frame narrows the window to the eye and the difference is immediately apparent in this scale.
The B5N2 kit itself is not included.
