A decal sheet in 1:32 scale for a model of the P-51D-5 Mustang fighter, with markings for machines of the 357th Fighter Group of the US Army Air Forces. An accessory for a build in a large scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The P-51D is the most widespread form of the American Mustang fighter. It is a single-seat all-metal low-wing aircraft with a teardrop canopy, which opened up the pilot's view to the rear, and with a liquid-cooled Merlin V12. The D-5 block is among the first production batches of this version. The 357th FG in the name refers to the 357th Fighter Group of the US Army Air Forces, one of the units that used Mustangs over Europe.
A decal sheet in 1:32 scale is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. It offers markings other than those usually carried by the sheet enclosed with the kit, so an ordinary box can become a particular machine. How many machines and how extensive the technical lettering the sheet covers is given in the manufacturer's description; in a large scale the lettering is usually more legible and there is as a rule more of it than in small scales.
The surface under a decal should be smooth and glossy, otherwise a matte shadow will show under the film. Cut the motif close to the edge of the print, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until it starts to slide on the paper. Transfer it onto the moistened spot, position it and soak the excess water away with a tissue from the center to the edges. A decal softener helps on riveting and broken-up surfaces. Once dry, coat the whole model with a matte or semi-gloss varnish so that the edges of the film disappear.
The kit, paints, glue and varnishes are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
