A photo-etched detail set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for the exterior surface of a model of the Northrop F-5F aircraft in 1:32 scale. The set concentrates on the exterior, that is, on the fine elements on the outside of the airframe, where a plastic part from a mold cannot keep to the real thickness of the material. It is not a kit, but an aftermarket accessory that is fitted to a basic model.
The Northrop F-5 is an American light supersonic combat aircraft with two turbojet engines, built in single-seat and two-seat forms. The F-5F version is the two-seat one, with a lengthened forward fuselage because of the second cockpit, and it was used above all for training with the option of combat use. A number of operators flew it alongside the single-seat version, so both forms often appear on models in the same finish. Thanks to the longer nose, the two-seat version has a different geometry of the forward section than the single-seat one, which matters when choosing aftermarket parts.
Exterior photo-etch belongs on the surface only after the filling and sanding is finished, otherwise you will destroy it during the work. Glue the small covers and grilles with cyanoacrylate glue in tiny drops; with thin parts it has proved best to put the glue on the tip of a toothpick and only then touch the part with it. Before gluing, try the part dry to see whether it fits into the recess in the plastic, and carefully sand off any plastic protrusions. Degrease the metal and spray it with a primer so that the final paint holds equally well on the metal and on the plastic.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The basic model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
