About product

Eduard 1:32 Panavia Tornado IDS TFace cockpit glazing masks

This is not an aircraft kit but an add-on to one. The set contains self-adhesive painting masks cut to the shape of the cockpit frames of a Panavia Tornado IDS model in 1:32 scale. The masks are applied directly to the clear part, so the boundary between glass and frame comes out crisp and straight without hand-lining with a brush or sticking strips of tape. Eduard is a Czech manufacturer from Obrnice near Most and masking sets are among its most widespread accessories.

What the TFace designation means

The TFace line addresses the situation in which the inside of the cockpit is visible on the finished model. Alongside masks for the outer side of the glazing it also contains counterparts for the inner side, so the frames can be painted from both sides and the cockpit looks realistic even when seen through the glazing. In the large 1:32 scale that difference is clearly apparent on the model.

The real subject

The Panavia Tornado IDS is a two-seat combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, developed in an international European program. The crew consists of a pilot and a systems operator, so the cockpit is long and divided into several glazed parts with a large number of frames. It is precisely this geometry that makes hand masking a lengthy job, one that cut masks shorten markedly.

Usage tips

Wash the clear part before applying and let it dry thoroughly; grease from fingers makes the mask hold worse. Carry the masks with tweezers and press them down with a toothpick or a stick all around the edge, above all in the corners. Spray the paint in several thin coats so that it does not run under the edge. Take the mask off shortly after the varnish has dried, not days later; older adhesive is harder to remove. Cover the remaining glazed areas with masking fluid or tape.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the large 1:32 scale, where the cockpit interior is visible
  • Those who want crisp frames without laborious cutting of tape
  • Builders who paint with an airbrush
  • Beginners who find hand masking of curved glazing difficult

This is an add-on to a model, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a set of painting masks, that is an add-on to a Tornado IDS kit in 1:32 scale you have already bought. The model itself is not in the package.

An ordinary set covers only the outer side of the glazing. TFace adds counterparts for the inner side, so the frames visible from inside the cockpit can be painted as well.

Shortly after the varnish has dried to the touch. The longer a mask stays on the model, the harder it is to peel off and the greater the risk that it leaves traces of adhesive behind.

The cut matches a particular kit in 1:32 scale. Before buying, make sure that your kit corresponds to the type the set is designed for.
