An injection-molded plastic model of the British single-seat fighter biplane Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5a in 1:32 scale from the Roden brand. This version captures the machine powered by the Hispano-Suiza V8 engine. The kit offers finely engraved surface detail, separately shaped control surfaces and a well-worked engine and cockpit; as with every biplane, the build includes bracing wires between the wings and the struts.
The S.E.5a was, together with the Sopwith Camel, among the most successful British fighters of the close of the First World War. It was a solid and fast machine with good handling at high speeds, popular with a number of well-known aces. This very version was powered by the French Hispano-Suiza V8; at first the deliveries and the reliability of the engine held the type's service back, until the production of the powerplants settled down.
On a biplane, assemble and paint the cockpit and the engine before you close the fuselage up - after gluing, these places are harder to reach. Clean the fine struts and exhausts carefully. Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic, then fill and sand the seams. Apply a primer before painting and spray the paints with an airbrush in thin coats. The bracing wires are best dealt with after painting, using rigging thread. Imitate the fabric and the wooden surfaces with glazes and washes.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
