The cockpit of a model of the Soviet vertical take-off machine is improved by the Yak-38 Forger cockpit set in 1:48 scale from Aires.
Responsibility details are not available.
Replacement cockpit equipment for a model of the Soviet carrier aircraft Yakovlev Yak-38, known under the NATO reporting name Forger. The base kit has to be obtained separately; this item deals only with the cockpit area. It carries the Aires brand.
In this scale the cockpit on the model is small, but it is well visible through the canopy, and in plastic it tends to be simplified into a few smooth surfaces. The replacement gives the cockpit tub depth, gives the instrument panel and the side consoles relief and adds a sense of scale to the whole model. It pays off above all where the canopy is to be slid open.
The Yakovlev Yak-38 was the first production carrier aircraft of the Soviet Navy with vertical take-off and landing. It first flew in 1971 and from the middle of the 1970s it served on the Kiev class aviation cruisers. It had one main engine with vectoring nozzles and, with it, a pair of separate lift engines placed right behind the cockpit. It did manage vertical take-off, but at the cost of a short range and a modest combat load, which showed especially in a hot climate. It stayed in service until the beginning of the 1990s.
The item is supplied unpainted; neither coatings nor glue are included in the package.
