An imitation bolt with a hex head and a collar under the head in the 1.1 mm size. The collar widens the mating surface, so the joint looks heavier than a bare head and can be made out on the model even without a magnifier.
On a real machine the collar does the work of a washer: it spreads the load over a wider area and spares the surface of the part. On a model it adds one more effect, a purely visual one. A shallow step forms around the head, light breaks on its edge, and the joint therefore reads even from a distance at which a bare hex would be lost. Flange bolts are therefore useful wherever it should be clear that the joint carries something: the mounting of the engine, brackets, the exhaust flange or gearbox covers.
Among fasteners the 1.1 mm size belongs to the bigger ones, and that shows during the build.
For builders of motorcycles, cars and machinery in larger scales, where the finest parts would be lost and where the model is viewed close up. Before drilling, hold the part against the piece and compare its size with the surrounding shapes. The model, paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
