A set of cut masks for painting an RF-5E model in 1:32 scale. The RF-5E is the reconnaissance version of a light supersonic aircraft derived from the fighter variant, from which it differs above all in the modified front fuselage carrying the sensor equipment. That is exactly why careful masking pays off on it: the outlines of the glazing and the different panels on the nose are the most conspicuous distinguishing mark of the whole model.
The masks take the place of work that would otherwise have to be done with a knife and masking tape. Cutting out curves and transferring a shape from one side to the other disappears, and that is what goes wrong most easily on rounded framing. The set is cut for the Kitty Hawk kit number 32023 — please check that this is the one you are building, because the outlines of the parts differ between manufacturers even by tenths of a millimeter and a mask then does not fit.
Wash the clear parts beforehand and let them dry thoroughly; even a thin film of grease will cause the mask to let go after a while and the paint to run underneath. Lift the mask off the sheet with the tip of a scalpel, so that it does not wrinkle, and lay it on from one edge. Before you start spraying, hold the part up to the light and check whether a gap shows anywhere. It works well to seal the edges with a first coat of the base color — any bleeding will then be in a color that will be covered over anyway. Take the mask off while the paint has only flashed off.
This is a masking accessory, not a model. The kit and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
