This die-cut self-adhesive Eduard masking set in 1:32 scale is intended for a plastic model of the American Douglas SBD Dauntless carrier-based dive bomber in versions 4 and 5. It is neither a kit nor a model in its own right, but a set of precisely shaped masks in thin yellow masking tape (kabuki). The masks will be appreciated by modelers who want crisp color transitions on the glazing, the wheels and the camouflage areas without tediously cutting tape by hand.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless is an American carrier-based dive bomber of the Second World War. It became famous above all at the Battle of Midway, where its crews contributed markedly to the sinking of Japanese aircraft carriers. It was a two-seat machine with a long greenhouse canopy over the pilot and the rear gunner alike and with characteristic perforated dive flaps. The SBD-4 and SBD-5 versions brought an improved electrical system and a stronger engine.
Degrease the extensive glazing of the greenhouse canopy carefully. Lift the masks off the backing and lay them patiently onto the individual panels of the pilot's and the gunner's framing, working systematically. Spray the paint with an airbrush in thin coats, so that it does not run under an edge. The masks for the wheels separate the tire from the disc. Once the paint is dry, peel the masks off carefully at a shallow angle.
