The Spitfire Mk.IX arose as a quick answer to the new German fighters and joined the proven airframe design to the more powerful twelve-cylinder Merlin V engine. It became one of the most widespread Spitfires of the war. The cockpit kept the typical features of the whole line, that is the tubular frame along the sides, the door on the left side and the control column with the arched grip that the pilot operated with his thumb.
The sheet brings color 3D decals with a relief of their own for the surfaces of the cockpit, that is for the instrument panel, the side walls and the cockpit frame. The dials, levers and placards stand out above the surface, so in 1:32 scale they hold their depth even from close up. They replace the flat decals from the kit and save the work of painting the small instruments.
The set is applied like a decal, only do not use a decal softener, it would attack the printed resin. Paint the cockpit first, let the paint cure and coat the surface with a gloss varnish (Future, Klear, Tamiya X-22), because the decals have no adhesive layer of their own. Sand the raised instruments on the kit part down flat so the decal beds down over its whole area. Leave the cut-out part about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water, slide it off the paper with tweezers and press it down with a cotton bud; on the tubular frame work in small pieces and help yourself with cyanoacrylate glue.
The set suits modelers who are building the Spitfire Mk.IX in the large 1:32 scale with the door open or the canopy slid back, that is where there is a view into the cockpit. It will also be appreciated by those who would rather avoid assembling photo-etched parts. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
