Reskit completes a large-scale build of the Phantom with the SUU-16A underwing gun pod in the variant with a closed gun bay, adapted for mounting under the wing. It is a standalone accessory for a model already under construction, not a kit of an aircraft. The name states that the part is made by 3D printing technology.
The SUU-16/A pod came about as an answer to the fact that the early Phantoms of the C and D versions had no built-in gun and sorely missed one in maneuvering combat over Southeast Asia. Inside the body was a 20 mm rotary cannon, driven by a retractable ram air turbine on the side. Crews used the pod mainly against ground targets, even though it increased drag and took away range.
Before painting, wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry out properly; the surface will then take the primer evenly. Release the stabilizing surfaces and thin brackets with a sharp blade, never break them off. Apply metal shades in several thin layers over a smooth primer and darken the forward area so that the relief stands out. Try the fit under the wing dry while the part is still unpainted.
Paints and glue are not included in the package.
