Masks for a model of the late Avenger in 1:32 scale. The box holds glazing masking for both faces and four national insignia stencils.
Responsibility details are not available.
The last and most numerous form of the Avenger received the Wright R-2600-20 radial engine of around nineteen hundred horsepower, a revised cowling with differently arranged cooling flaps and the ability to carry unguided rockets under the wings. With this fit the aircraft escorted attacks on the Japanese home islands until the last days of the war, and some of them served in the anti-submarine role after 1945.
The sheet contains a pair of masks for the main canopy, cut separately for the outer and the inner face, and four parts for the national markings. Late naval aircraft wore the insignia on the wings and on both sides of the fuselage, so four cut stencils cover the usual positions.
Late naval camouflage is a three-tone scheme with a vertical division and the transitions are sprayed freehand. The glazing masks therefore stay in place throughout the painting and are lifted only right at the end. Before they go on it is a good idea to polish the clear part, because marks left by the mold lift the film.
Late aircraft carried rails for unguided rockets under the wings and some of them had a spindle-shaped radar pod on the right wing for hunting submarines. Both change the view from below considerably and are usually the main reason for building this particular form. The radar pod is painted in a different shade from the skin, so it pays to mask it separately.
This is an aid for painting large-scale aircraft models.
