1:32 Tiger Camo Paint Masks For ATARS F/A-18D Hornet VMFA(AW)-224 is a four-sheet set of stencils for the tiger striping of the Marine Corps reconnaissance Hornet in 1:32 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Four sheets of machine-cut shapes carry the whole striping pattern that covered the fuselage and the vertical tails of one of the most strikingly colored two-seat Hornets. The extent here is considerably greater than with the small framing sets: the stencils are laid onto large areas of the airframe and several shades are sprayed over them one after another.
Squadron VMFA(AW)-224 bears the nickname Bengals and a badge with a tiger's head; it is from that badge that the coloring the unit had sprayed onto one of its machines derives. The aircraft is the ATARS version, that is, an F/A-18D with a reconnaissance sensor block built into the nose in place of the cannon barrel. Hornets equipped this way provided tactical reconnaissance for the Marine Corps, and the unit operated them among other places in Iraq and at the Japanese base at Iwakuni.
Work from the lightest shade to the darkest and let every layer dry properly, as otherwise the stripes will be torn out during removal. Press the stencils down with your fingers along their whole length, and at the transitions between the fuselage and the wing help them along by warming with a hair dryer. Apply the paint at right angles to the edge, so that it does not run under it.
Neither the airframe of the aircraft nor paints are in the package.
