The real subject

The Panavia Tornado GR.4 was a two-seat strike aircraft of the Royal Air Force with a variable-geometry wing and a pair of turbofan engines. It came about as an upgrade of the earlier GR.1 version and stayed in service until 2019. The roomy cockpit with two seats in tandem is the most exposed part in a large scale, which is why it is worth concentrating on it.

What the set contains

The SPACE line set brings color three-dimensional parts for the cockpit of a Tornado GR.4 model in 1:32 scale. The instrument panels and other surfaces have both a raised relief and a color finish, so the lengthy brush painting of small gauges falls away.

Building and painting tips

The parts have no adhesive layer of their own. Moisten only the backing paper under the part with a sponge and a drop of detergent, then lift the part off with tweezers and seat it in place; fix it with PVA glue, that is white glue. The manufacturer does not recommend cyanoacrylate glue, and do not use a decal softener, as the chemicals would attack the printed layer. Wash and degrease the surface before seating and let it dry completely. Lay the part down in one movement and press from the center toward the edges. Fine shading is made easier by a dark wash into the recesses, but handle thinners carefully so that the color finish of the parts does not suffer.
