The Clarkat is an American light tractor that spread to carrier decks and to shore bases during the Second World War. Its job was to push airplanes around in a confined area where an ordinary tow vehicle would take up too much room. The design is therefore as simple as it gets: a low frame, four wheels, an open driver's seat and a hefty counterweight over the rear axle to put the pulling force down. The Fleet Air Arm used these tractors alongside American units, which is where the designation in the product name comes from.
A small model forgives little, so dry-fit the parts first and choose the glue by material: liquid modeling cement for polystyrene, cyanoacrylate glue for resin castings. If the parts are cast, wash them in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let them dry thoroughly, otherwise the paint will not hold. Spray the frame and the chassis before assembly, because you will not reach the lower surfaces later. Deck equipment used to be worn by work, so chipping on the edges, a dusty wheel and oily streaks around the engine will make the model believable faster than a flawless finish. A small object beside an airplane also helps the viewer read the scale of the whole scene.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
