This item is a resin accessory for a model of the Italian Macchi Mc.205 fighter in 1:48 scale, not an aircraft kit. It replaces the main gear wheels with castings that have finer rendering of the hub and of the tire tread, and it adds masks with which the paint of the tire is easily separated from the hub. The advantage of a cast wheel lies mainly in the rendering of the contact patch, thanks to which the model stands naturally on its base.
The Macchi Mc.205 Veltro was the last and the best performing production fighter of the Italian Macchi line from the period of the Second World War. It came about by fitting a more powerful liquid-cooled V engine into the airframe of the preceding type, which kept its slim aerodynamic shapes. The quantity built was small compared with other types of the day, which makes the model all the more interesting. The gear wheels are clearly visible on a slim aircraft, so their execution and the division of their colors affect the overall impression more than the size of the part would suggest.
First wash the parts in warm soapy water. Cut the casting block off with a saw and sand the mark wet so that it stays hidden in the contact patch. The painting sequence is simple: first the whole wheel in a dark tire shade, then stick the mask on and overspray the hub. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has flashed off, because the edge will be sharper than after it has fully cured. Do not make the tire black, because a dark gray tone with a hint of dust is more convincing in a small scale. Glue the finished wheel on with super glue at the very end, and when seating it make sure the flat spot sits level, otherwise the model stands crooked.
