A figure of a US Air Force pilot from the time of the Korean War in 1:32 scale. A figure for a model of an aircraft, for a diorama and for display on its own.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Korean War was a turning point for the US Air Force. Propeller machines from the end of the Second World War were still in service, but alongside them jet fighters were coming in and new gear with them. Flying went higher and faster, so soft cloth caps gave way to hard protective helmets with an oxygen mask. Over the flying suit or the jacket a life vest and a parachute harness were worn. It is precisely this mixture of the old and the new that makes an airman of the Korean War a rewarding subject.
A figure in 1:32 scale stands around five and a half centimeters for an adult, so the face, the buckles and the folds of the clothing can all be seen on it. It will stand beside a model of an aircraft, where it at once gives the machine a sense of scale and a human dimension, or it will serve as the center of a smaller diorama on the apron.
Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the rest off carefully, so that the folds of the clothing are preserved. Before painting, wash and degrease the figure and go over it with a primer, as paint otherwise holds badly on a smooth surface. Choose the glue to suit the material of the parts. Paint in thin coats from the darker tones to the lighter ones, leave the face until last and work on it in good light and with a magnifier. The gear owes its result to contrast: a matte flying suit, glossier leather and a light vest tell the individual parts apart at a glance.
For aircraft modelers in 1:32 scale who want the crew beside the machine, and for collectors of figures with an interest in the 1950s. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
